Jack, i resemble that remark, lol I had alot of trouble when i first got the module. I have a few sticks of uncompatible ram to show for it too. Oh well, very frustrating as Jack said the OS will hang. T

I just went to ebay and found matched set of compatible RAM for $12.99 a set with free shipping. I will report back after i get it into the module and can confirm that it works. I am also buying a second set to try and will confirm this set as well and offer them up here for what i paid if anyone needs them. T

For the DTXtreme III either speed will work, the more important thing is keeping the DIMM at less that 16 chips per DIMM, and having a matched set (manufactured in the same fab in the same batch prefferably). I use Kingston model KVR133X64C3/256 both my DIMM are fab'ed in China, both are PC133 speed wise and both are 256 megs or ram thus 512 megs installed in the module.
I'm pretty sure these can be purchased online but the problem with online is you may not get a matched set unless you ask and specify that both DIMM have to be identical, as mentioned, if purchased from this site or a Yamaha dealer, the set should be perfectly matched and will work.
If you put the wrong DIMM memory in the module, the module may act unpredictably or not boot up at all, things we learned when the DTXtreme III was first released.
Take care

I found these with that part number: http://cgi.ebay.com/KINGSTON-SDRAM-1GB-2...=item43a6940cee

When ordering, specify you need 2 from the same batch, same place of manufacture (China, Taiwan, USA, etc). They also have to have 8 chips on them not 16.

Those ones on flee-bay say they have 8 chips per side, 16 total... according to catapult, they won't work...?

ALSO, I already have a pair of 256 (512 total).... how much of a difference does 1gb make over the 512mb anyways?

All I can say is that the memory worked for me, your mileage may vary and try at your own risk.

I think the max. number of chips is 18: From the manual, page 147:

Use only 168-pin DIMMs of 64, 128 or 256 MB capacity
(synchronized DRAM; PC100 or PC133).
When installing DIMMs, make sure to install them in a
matched pair of the same capacity. You cannot install
only one module and leave the second memory socket
open. Also make sure each DIMM in the pair is of the
same manufacturer and the same type. DIMMs of different
makers and configurations may not work together.
When purchasing DIMMs, make sure that the DIMM
design does not utilize more than 18 memory chips per
module. (
DIMMs comprised of more than 18 chips do
not operate correctly on the DTX900.)

I think 512 Mb is officially not supported. If you have an older PC standing around, open it up to see what memory it has and try to use that in the module? It may be easier to replace the memory in the PC... My e-bay vendor said he would take the memory back if it did not work.

Also check this thread: http://www.dtxperience.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=438031

Good luck!

Who was your ebay vendor? I want the same deal, same sticks, etc etc. I know it's not supported, but if it works, it works.

Still wondering how much better the 1gb is over the 512mb?

My seller was Geek_noize at http://shop.ebay.com/geek_noize/m.html and paid $29.99 with free shipping for the two memory modules. Both were packaged well and I did not see any signs of use. My Yamaha is an original DTX-900, not an updated DTXtreme III.

The DTX-900 is only "expandable to 512 MB (256 MB DIMM x 2 slots)" same as the DTXtremeIII.

Are there any good performance gains of having the 1gb over the 512mb?

None as far as I know, apart from that I could not get my hands on 256mb dimms. There are several others who have used 1 Gb.

Also, DTXperience sells 1Gb (2x512Mb)kits for the DTX900 here
