Hello! I'm Doug. I'm 50 and have been a Christian for one year. Better late than never!

My church has a pretty good band but the drummer is often unable to attend. I was in the marching band way back in high school and hadn't picked up a stick since. To fill the need at church (and because I've always thought about learning to play on a set), I picked up a new DTXpress IV V2 Special the other day.

I've found a teacher (few and far between up here in Maine) and should start taking lessons after the holidays are over. I'm having fun just trying to figure out all of the settings on this set. I'm figuring maybe a year's worth of lessons and maybe I'll be up to speed enough to join the band at church.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Doug

Welcome CheesyD, I started drumming in a church when I was 19 I am 45. I stopped playing for about 9 years and 2 years ago the church I am at needed another drummer and i was in. I have a dtxpress 4 special. At church I play a Sonor 3007 kit with Sabian AAX cymbals. We play hillsong, planetshakers etc so i get to lay into the kit which is good. I learn and practise all the songs on my dtexpress4 it is a great practise kit. I havn't tried it in church. Most of the muso's and singers in our church are 35 plus, our best guitarist is 55. We also have a Teen church so they have their own band.
i still am learning mainly from dvd,s.
god bless
Robo

Hey Doug, I'm in Maine also. What area are you living in? If you're close to Portland The Drum Shop in Union Station Plaza has some good teachers.

Joe,

I'm up by Bar Harbor. I may have found a teacher in Brewer. I'm just waiting to hear back from him on his schedule. It's a bit of a drive but I haven't found anyone else.

Doug

Afternoon gentlemen,

I was saved about 2 years ago after being a roadie with a famous rock band for 10 years. I heard the call from the Lord and took it. All the drugs, sex and rock n' roll really wore me out over the years. I still have the scars (and herpes) from my life in sin. I have been been sober now for 2 weeks thanks to my Lord and Savior. Praise Jesus.

I found out I had a son in 2009 with a prostitute I used to frequent. What a blessing! He is a really smart kid and I bought him a drum set and have been encouraging him to practice. He has a real musical talent. His mom was always very musical and could do some really neat tricks with ping pong balls. Unfortunately, we can't get married because I never got divorced from my 4th wife and can't afford a lawyer right now. That won't stop me from being with my son. Praise Jesus.

Anyways, nice to hear from you folks out there.
