Welcome to the GLOBAL XPERIENCE, the human face of Yamaha's compelling drum technology.

As this page launches we are focusing on two artists who have made specific contributions to the world of DTX drums. Yamaha can of course call upon most of the world's top drummers (acoustic or electronic) within its Artist Endorsement program, and one of the most exciting features of DTXPERIENCE.COM is going to be co-coordinating with many of these players for both written and video stories that will be posted here, as well as notification of artist clinic tours, Artist Series kit libraries, and much more.

Akira came to fame with the four-piece Japanese jazz-fusion band Casiopea. Casiopea was formed in 1979 by guitarist Issei Noro, keyboardist Minoru Mukaiya, bassist Tetsuo Sakurai and drummer Takashi Sasaki. The band released its first album in May of 1979, a high-energy fusion of jazz and funk augmented by a horn section consisting of top American stars Michael and Randy Brecker and David Sanborn.

On first leaving Casiopea in 1989 Akira formed the band Jimsaku. He has since played with Keiko Matsui, Shambara and many others. Over the years he’s released many solo albums, including Cotton (1986), Palette (1991), Slow Boat (1992), and Lime Pie (1994). He’s also to date released four instructional videos entitled Metamorphosis (1992), Pulse (1995), Independence (1998) and Evolution (1999).

Today his solo performances are legendary. Unlike many other clinicians who play along to sequenced backing tracks, Akira is quite capable of playing both acoustic kit and electronic kit simultaneously in real time to create amazing, complete pieces of music. Yet although he revels in complexity he is also very aware of the need to groove, to create a good feel, just like his first hero Steve Gadd.

Tony Verderosa is widely considered to be a leading authority on Live Sample Triggering and Electronic drumming. He was voted "#1 Electronic Drummer" in DRUM! Magazine's readers Poll. In the past 5 years he has focused on perfecting his live Techno/Drum n' Bass concept ("DJ/Drumming") which originated in the underground scene in NYC. He was also a featured artist appearing in his own TV commercial called "TonyV's Mix" for Twix. His most recent work (drumming and remixing) can be heard on John Petrucci's new Solo CD (Guitarist for Dream Theater).

A classically trained percussionist, he has mastered a hybrid electro-acoustic percussion system that allows him to play melodies, harmonies, bass lines, loops, vocal samples and sound effects all in realtime. As Tony describes it, "It's like combining the best parts of being a composer, piano player, bass player and DJ.......Totally LIVE!."

His recordings have received critical acclaim in the underground community as well as more Jazz based publications such as DownBeat Magazine (4 star reviews). He has shared the stage with Underworld, recorded and performed with Drum N Bass Producer Jamie Myerson, Pop Producer Philippe Saisse, Cold Cut, The Brecker Brothers and Angelique Kidjo among many others. He is the author of 3 DVD videos and 3 books with Hal Leonard Publications. His most recent book is called "The Drummers Guide to Loop Based Music". His 3rd Solo CD is due out this fall.

Tony is a top level internationally sponsored artist with Yamaha and has contributed to their new line of samplers, electronic drums and groove boxes (Dtxtreme IIS, RM1X, RS7000).
